چکیده
215 Summary Colorectal cancer is the 3rd most common malignant neoplasm in the West. About 50% of patients develop liver metastases throughout the course of the disease. Those are res ponsible for at least twothirds of deaths. Advances in surgical techniques and improve ment in chemotherapy regimens have allowed offering treatment with curative intent to an increasing number of patients. This article reviews recent advances in the treatment of liver metastases, including strategies to increase resection (e.g., portal vein emboliza tion, radiofrequency ablation, twostage hepatectomy, conversion therapy and reverse treatment strategy) and hepatectomy in the presence of extrahepatic disease. Finally, the results of surgical treatment of liver metastases at the Hospital A.C. Camargo are briefly shown.

متن کاملResection of liver metastases: state of the art.
In this article, we present current surgical perspectives on the management of liver metastases, with a focus on state-of-the-art resection, by drawing on clinical data provided in the medical literature. Metastases from colorectal cancer are the most amenable to resection, when considering long-term benefits. To highlight the evidence-based rationalefor surgical resection, a succinct compariso...
متن کاملContemporary surgical management of synchronous colorectal liver metastases
Historically, the 5-year survival rates for patients with stage 4 (metastatic) colorectal cancer were extremely poor (5%); however, with advances in systemic chemotherapy combined with an ability to push the boundaries of surgical resection, survival rates in the range of 25-40% can be achieved. This multimodal approach of combining neo-adjuvant strategies with surgical resection has raised a n...
متن کاملSYNCHRONOUS SURGICAL REMOVAL OF SUSPICIOUS OVARIAN METASTASES FROM COLORECTAL CANCER
Metastatic ovarian cancers occur in 3-8 percent of women undergoing surgical resection of a primary colorectal cancer. In this study we examined the characteristics of women with colorectal cancer for whom synchronous oophorectomy had been performed. In this cross-sectional study, records of patients with colorectal cancer from April 1991 through October 1999 who had undergone surgery for ...
